The first step when considering new intervention to an existing building is to consider what is needed in the first place. How can resources be efficiently used to ensure that there is no unnecessary wasted resource? How can we work with the existing to minimise additional works? This applies to room layouts, walls, fittings and finishes. This should be the first step when considering new material and resource. 

 

How can we work with the existing to minimise new intervention? Is joinery and furniture working to its maximum capacity or is there a high amount of waste generated? Can the designs be set out modularly to minimise material additions and wastage?
